What Is Cloud Computing?

Should I or Shouldn’t I?

That is the question plagued by small to medium sized businesses who when starting out didn’t have the time nor see faith in putting their data in the cloud.

Fast forward a few years and that’s all everyone talks about when it comes to collaboration and making your life easier tech wise, now sure the idea of putting your valuable information somewhere in the digital sky is somewhat daunting but in today’s day you are prompted at every step and turn with 2FA (which is a nice way of security at the club making sure you are in fact who you say you are) and secure passwords to make sure your data is safe up there, much more safe than that non patched desktop server that your local IT guy installed 3 years ago and “monitors weekly”.

So, what is “The Cloud”?

According to a recent survey done by Citrix it’s either an actual cloud, the sky, or something related to weather, however in the tech world the easiest way to explain it in non-geek terms its storing and accessing your data and applications over the Internet instead of your computer’s hard drive. With an online connection, cloud computing can be done anytime, anywhere giving you the freedom to work in the office or from home which we have seen more workplaces adapting too thanks to Covid.

Some of the other major benefits of moving to the cloud include cost savings, security, and increased collaboration through office online products such as Microsoft 365 apps or Gsuite.

So how do you get started?

Adopting to cloud infrastructure doesn’t have to be complicated, whether you are running a Microsoft or Mac environment a few points to consider for your business is to conduct a cost-benefit study and compare which cloud provider (Google,Office365) would suit your business better, once you have done that and want to explore the possibilities of where and how your business can migrate to the cloud, feel free to get in touch with Jason at JWL IT Solutions for a conversation on how to better improve your IT infrastructure and get you working more efficiently.
