Senior Tax Accountant

Role summary.

The Tax Accountant will be allocated a portfolio of clients to manage the annual tax compliance work and client deliverables as set in the annual engagement agreement, in accordance with the procedures documented in the halkin way.

In addition to a high level of technical capability, this role is also required to deliver a high level of client communication and service.

Duties and responsibilities

  • Responsible for providing the necessary requirements to the Tax Partner and any tasks allocated from Client Relationship Managers

  • Provide research to the Tax Partner and Senior Managers on all taxation matters

  • Provide recommendations on client set up or tax scenarios to the Tax Partner as evidenced by research

  • Responsible for completing all assigned tax requirements as specified by halkin business partners engagement agreement and the allocated schedule / deadlines

  • Responsible for preparing interim tax planning schedules, organizing client planning meetings, year end wrap meetings and documenting meeting outcomes

  • Prepare tax returns, financial statements and BAS statements at required intervals for companies, partnerships, trusts and individuals

  • Attend to other tax compliance matters and tax filings as required throughout the year

  • Review of tasks delegated and performed by junior staff

  • Liaise with the Australian Taxation Office (ATO) and other regulatory bodies when required

  • Engage regularly with clients and maintain strong relationships

  • Identify areas where clients and businesses can reduce tax, make claims and increase profit

  • Possess strong knowledge of tax law and statutory regulations

  • Understanding financial landscape and market trends

  • Analyse information in order to identify problems and probable causes

  • Responsible for the organisation and filing of both soft and hard copies of all client documentation

  • Responsible for completing all Internal administration in a timely, efficient and accurate manner

  • Responsible for furthering the business aims of halkin business partners

Key candidate skills and attributes will include:

  • B. Com (Accounting)

  • CA qualified or near completion

  • Minimum 6 years experience in an accounting firm

  • Collaborative and supportive style

Additional Requirements

  • MS Office proficiency

  • Xero experience (preferable but not essential)

  • High level of written and verbal English communication

  • High standard of professionalism

  • Excellent presentation skills

  • Accurate documentation skills

  • Conscientious and hard-working, with the ability to work towards deadlines

  • Professional and mature approach

  • Collaborative and supportive style
